Fire Run on April 14 to pay homage to martyred firemen

Panaji: On the occasion of National Fire Service Day, Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services, in partnership with Vasco Sports Club, has organised a Goa Fire Run on April 14 to pay homage to firemen martyrs.
Addressing the media, Fire and Emergency Services Director Ashok Menon said, “We are pleased to announce the first edition of this event with a route that starts at Goa Fire Brigade Training Ground. It is symbolic as the event is homage to the fireman martyrs who laid down their lives saving lives and property.”
“From the ground the 10Km and 5Km events will be flagged off and will proceed via Miramar circle, alongside the Mandovi River. This will be an annual event on April 14 which is the Fireman Martyrs Day and for this first edition we expect 500 runners for both runs,” Menon said.
As a lead up to the National Fire Service Day, the department will launch a series of activities to enhance awareness among school children and citizens. The national theme this year is ‘Fireman – your partner for saving life and property’.
“There will also be a poster making competition for primary and middle school students on April 2. The competition will be divided two groups (7-10 years) on ‘Fireman – our friend in times of need’ and the other group (11-14 years of age) on ‘Fire precautions to save life and property’. [H]
