Fishing vessel missing from Cutbona jetty

 A fishing vessel anchored at the Cutbona jetty and owned by Nicolau Rodrigues has gone missing. A police complaint to this effect has been lodged by Rodrigues with the Cuncolim police. Acting on the complaint lodged by Rodrigues, police have booked an offence against three persons, James Anthony Kiro, Ganpat Ambik and Gangadhar Ambik, all workers engaged on trawlers, in connection with the case. Further investigations are underway.

Garment store burgled at Aquem: Unidentified culprits broke into a garment shop owned by Sanjay Parab at Aquem-Alto on Sunday night and decamped with goods worth 1.30 lakh. Acting on the complaint lodged by Parab, Margao police booked an offence against unknown accused.

Mungul house damaged in fire: Fire broke out at the residence of Agostinho Fernandes at Mungul, Margao, on Monday afternoon causing loss of property worth 1 lakh. Personnel from the fire and emergency services, who rushed to the site, succeeded in saving property worth 3 lakh, sources said. The cause of the fire could not be ascertained.

Russian rescued off Benaulim beach: A 26-year-old Russian tourist was rescued on Sunday evening when she had gone for a swim in a 'no-swim' zone at Benaulim beach after she was caught in a rip current. Lifeguard Pandurang Bhat said the Russian tourist, Viniyara Galimova, 26, was spotted swimming in a 'no-swim' area about 50m from the shore at Benaulim beach at around 5pm. She was caught in a rip current which dragged her about 60m seaward when Bhat saw that the victim was in distress and rushed to the spot with his rescue tube, while lifeguard Anil Girap informed the lifeguard tower over radio and also rushed for backup. The victim was secured with a rescue tube. A jetski also reached the spot and Galimova was brought ashore safely. Upon recovery, the victim was checked for injuries and was released immediately.

'All schemes will have long-run benefits': Chief minister Manohar Parrikar has assured to give a guarantee about providing a long-run benefit of different schemes launched by the state government for the welfare of people stating that nobody should worry about the execution of the schemes as the process of completing the necessary formalities is being done step-by-step and as such people are requested not to panic and hurry to fill up the forms. He was addressing the villagers of Pilgao on the occasion of the foundation stone laying ceremony of the construction of a khazan bandhara at a cost of 3 crore recently. He was accompanied by deputy speaker Anant Shet, agriculture director Satish Tendulkar, S Prabhavalkar, P Anki, Pilgao sarpanch Jayant Kavlekar, Babaji Gaonkar, Ramchandra Garde, panch members and others who were present on the dais.

N Goa MP inaugurates Sarvan library: North Goa MP Shripad Naik called upon the people to inculcate a habit of reading in order to achieve worldwide knowledge.
