Five establishments in SGPDA complex raided

Officials of legal metrology on Wednesday conducted raids in Margao and booked cases against five establishments in the SGPDA market complex, for violations of various provisions of the law, and in similar raids in Panjim confiscated electronic items and packaged goods, for not displaying correct information on the packages.
Around 20 shops and business establishment were raided at Margao, while five were raided in Panjim.
Assistant Legal Metrology Controller Prasad Shirodkar said the erring establishment in Margao will be fined under relevant provision of law. “We have seized weighing machines which were not stamped. The drive will continue against the illegal practices,” he added.
The officials inspected stalls selling chicken, besides shops selling utensils and other consumer durables.
In the Panjim raids, sources told Herald that the raids were part of a routine exercise being conducted by the officials of the Legal Metrology department to ensure the correct declaration on the packages. “They (packages) were seized for insufficient declaration on the packages,” the source said.
The seized equipment included power tools, and other electronic hardware. [H]
