Fix charges before transporting e-auctioned ore: Truck owners

Ponda: The truck owners have threatened to take the mining companies to court, if transportation rates are not fixed for e-auctioned ore before commencing transportation.

North Goa Truck Owners Association President Suresh Desai and South Goa Truck Owners Secretary Satuawan Gaonkar on Friday demanded that before transporting e-auctioned ore, the mining companies should finalise the rates.

Mining dependent truck owners alleged that past experience is that mining companies always cheated them while making payment for transportation of e-auctioned ore.

Desai said that as many of the truck owners have no jobs after mining closure, some of them rush for transportation of e-auctioned ore without thinking about rates and taking advantage of the truckers’ condition, mining companies don’t make fair payment to them.

He appealed to the truck owners not to go for transportation hurriedly before the rates are finalised.

Sandeep Parab said that the truck owners associations have been formed for solving their issues and providing them justice.

“The mining companies or the government should sort out rates first for transportation of e-auctioned ore. If rates are not decided according to the formula fix by the government, then, we will approach the Court to get justice,” he said.

Parab is the president of All Goa Machine Owners Association. He said that he welcomes the chief minister’s decision to file review petition before the Supreme Court over mining issues and hoped that solution may come soon to restart mining.

“But before that, the government should form mining dump policy and gave them job for transportation of e-auctioned ore till the government achieves success in restarting mining in Goa,” he said. [H]
