Flat burgled in Margao; Rs 10 lakh valuables stolen

Margao: In a major broad daylight theft reported at a flat at Kurtarkar Complex, Madel Grande-Margao, thieves decamped with gold ornaments, cash and other valuables.

The Fatorda police have registered an offence against unknown persons under 380 of the IPC, however, no one has been arrested.

Thieves opened the main door with a screw driver which was found outside the flat. Sources said that gold ornaments worth Rs 10 lakh and cash of Rs 20,000 were stolen from the flat. The thieves effected entry into the flat and decamped with two gold chains, earrings, bangles and other gold items and valuables besides cash of Rs 20,000.

The Fatorda police, based on information, rushed to the spot and conducted the panchanama. A dog squad and fingerprint expert was pressed into service, said the police.

The police said that the owner of the house along with her son had left the flat at around 9 am on Tuesday morning for work, however, the son returned between 11 am and 11.30 am and found the flat open.

Later, the police were called and panchanama was conducted.

Also an attempt to commit theft in another flat of the same building was also made, but nothing was stolen from it. The thieves opened the main door using a screw driver, which was found outside the flat. The police are conducting the investigation. [NT]
