Four ‘astrologers’ arrested at Ponda

 

Ponda Police on Wednesday arrested four persons posing as ‘astrologers’, on charges of cheating people under the pretext of solving their problems.
Ponda Police arrested Selvam Naninnar (38), Shivram Naninnar (39), Singaravelam Naninnar (30), all from Tamil Nadu, and Paundraj Singh (46) from Chennai. They were arrested at their rented premise at Dhavli-Ponda.
“We received information that they were operating from Ponda and were cheating people under the pretext of solving problems through astrology,” informed Ponda PI C L Patil. “Acting on the information, we conducted the raid and arrested the four accused. We have also recovered some astrology material from the accused,” added Patil.
“According to our information, the accused have so far cheated hundreds of innocent people from Ponda and other areas. The accused were operating from Dhavli since the last 15 days and had even released advertisements in a local Marathi daily. I request people not to fall prey to such tactics,” said Patil.
After police conducted the raid, Mahendra Naik from Panjim lodged a complaint against the four accused. Naik claimed that the accused took Rs 750 to solve his problems. [H]
