Four tourism officials given magisterial powers
For the first time in the history of the tourism department, the home department has conferred executive magisterial powers on four officials of the tourism department, who are now armed with powers to act against illegalities at tourist locations in the State of Goa.
In an order issued by the Home department, executive magisterial powers have been vested in four assistant directors of tourism which includes the ADT (Planning), ADT (Information) for North Goa and the ADT (Trade) and ADT (Revenue) for South Goa.
The officials will accompany flying squads which will comprise one PSI and the tourist police and act against illegal practices to the extent of ordering arrests as and when required in exercise of powers under the CrPC.
According to senior officials in the tourism ministry this proposal was long awaited and will now help the tourism ministry to crack down instantly on wrongful activities at tourist locations. [H]
