Fr Feroz Fernandes speaks at launch of Konkani Books for Children

On Children's Day – November 14, 2012 – the Dalgado Konknni Akademi released three Konkani books for children at the hands of Fr Feroz Fernandes, Editor-Vauraddeanchi Ixtt, at the Children's Park at Campal in Panjim. The three books beefing up children's literature include "Isopacheao Kannio" (Aesop's Fables) by Fr Pratak Naik, "Jaduchem Pettul" – a novel by Vincy Quadros – and "Espi May Ani Goycho Her Kannio", a translation of of Anita Pinto's book by Isidore Dantas. The programme, geared largely to small children, took off with Savio Giligili's entertaining magic show and his Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, followed by the release of each book and the author/translator speaking about it, and eventually chief guest Fr Feroz's engaging address to the excited audience. Guest of Honour Dionisio Carvalho, Dy Conservator of Forests, also spoke on the occasion besides DKA president Premanand Lotlikar. The proceedings, compered by Jose Salvador Fernandes, were entirely in mothertongue Konkani, with even Anita Pinto addressing an audience Konkani probably for the first time. Her translator, Isidore Dantas, dwelt on the pleasure and privilege of translating Anita's book of short stories for children published by Goa-1556, with illustration by well-known cartoonist Alexyz.
