Functions cancelled over minister’s absence
Laying of foundation stones for four different works under the Water Resources Department suffered a setback as ministers failed to turn up at the functions and local authorities were forced to cancel the functions on Thursday.
The foundation stone for a retaining wall on both sides of Agonda River, a retaining wall to the sluice gate at Mangan-Kindlem, a protection wall across the Ponsulemoll Bhandara (Cotigao) and a new Bhandara at Galgibaga, St Anthony HS were scheduled to be launched by WRD Minister Dayanand Mandrekar.
According to advertisements in the media, the foundation stones were to be laid by Mandrekar in the presence of Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar.
Sarpanchas Navneeta Naik Gaunkar (Agonda), Meena Gaonkar (Cotigao) and Mahesh Naik (Poinguinim) and CMC Chairperson Ajay Bhagat were also scheduled to be present.
Sources at the local WRD office confirmed the last-minute cancellation of the functions due to absence of the ministers. “We were informed at the last minute that the foundation stone laying ceremonies planned for the day were to be cancelled,” informed a source. [H]
