Furniture showroom at Arpora goes up in smoke

Goods worth an estimated Rs 4 lakh were gutted in a fire at a furniture showroom at Arpora on Tuesday.
According to sources, the workers at the showroom noticed the fire and began removing few items like sofa sets, chairs and tables, but the presence of foam in the showroom compounded matters for the workers. The workers managed to save a few wooden items belonging to the showroom owner, Kamal Sabri.
The showroom was engulfed in flames within minutes. A fire tender from Mapusa Fire Station rushed to the site and tried to control the fire. Another fire tender was also dispatched to the site.
The Police Control teams helped in the regulating traffic, as the showroom is located along the busy Arpora-Anjuna road. Speaking to reporters, Sabri has estimated the loss of property at Rs 4 lakh. [H]
