Genevieve bags silver in diving at Sr Nationals

Genevieve Atala D’Costa of Our Lady of the Rosary High School, Dona Paula bagged silver medal in 1 metre Spring Board Diving with 129 points at the 66th Senior National Aquatic Championships at Shiva Chatrapati Sports Complex Swimming Pool, Pune organised by Maharashtra State Amateur Aquatic Association under the aegis of Swimming Federation of India.

Hrutika Shriram of Railways bagged the gold with 151 points while Radhika Apte of Madhya Pradesh with 109 points won the bronze. Genevieve is being trained by P Narcimallu, senior diving coach of Goa. Goa Swimming Association president and other office-bearers have congratulated Genevieve for winning silver. Meanwhile, coach Narcimallu told The Navhind Times from Pune that Goa, through Genevieve, had managed to win silver at a senior national event after almost 12 years. “The last time a Goan had won silver at senior national aquatics was in 1998-99. In between, bronze had been won but it’s been a long time since somebody clinched silver,” Narcimallu disclosed. The senior diving coach hoped that Genevieve would continue the good run and aim for a medal in the 3m Spring Board Diving even tomorrow. Goan swimmer Talasha Prabhu also won a medal, claiming joint-silver in 50m butterfly, disclosed Narcimallu. [NT]
