GFDC’s first football development centre inaugurated at Valpoi
The Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Parrikar on Monday inaugurated the Goa Football Development Council’s (GFDC), first Football Development Centre at Valpoi Municipality ground, Valpoi with great fanfare.
Speaking after inaugurating the centre, Mr Parrikar said that his government is more concerned in promoting grassroots football and hence GFDC had inaugurated its first centre at Valpoi which was considered as backward in the same game.
However, he agreed that lot of talent is based in rural areas but due to unavailability of proper training, the talent could not flourish in longer terms.
Meanwhile, Mr Parrikar suggested the GFDC to avail of proper training and balanced diet for the children while undergoing training in football.
GFDC Chairman, Dr Rufino Monteiro, SAG Executive Director and GFDC member secretary, Mr Elvis Gomes, former MLA, Mr Narhari Haldanker, GFDC council member, Mr Shaikh Suleman Karol, Mr Mustufa Aga and Mr Ishmeet Singh were also present on the dais.
Earlier, three veteran football players Mr Noorudin Kaji, Mr Cosma D’Mello, Mr Appa Kudtarkar were felicitated at the hands of Chief Minister for their contribution in football game. Mr Parrikar also released balloons to declare the centre open at Valpoi. Mr Elvis Gomes welcomed the guests and the gathering while Ms Fehmida Khan proposed the vote of thanks.
