Goa glean medals in national bench press after 30 years


Goa bagged six medals, their first haul in 30 long years, at the national bench press championship, which was held at Jamshedpur, Jharkhand from February 22 to 26.
The north venue turned out to a lucky one for the Goan team as they ended their long-standing medal wait to strike 1 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze  in bench press.
Sayeel Lingudkar won Goa gold and silver while Angelo D’Costa claimed bronze medal in 120kg+ category. Sunny Vaz bagged silver in the 120 kg category, all at in the junior category.
K Prasad Naik won silver and bronze in 120+ category in senior section as he was the senior most player representing Goa. He was also the first Goan to be selected to represent India at the Asian Powerlifting Championship in 2012.
Mr Ramesh Tawadkar, Sports Minister congratulated the Goan team for staging a good performance at the National level and assured full support in the future. The team was accompanied by  Satyavan Naik, SAG coach. [NT]
