Goa were set to chase a challenging target of 304 by hosts Vidarbha as the visitors reached 39 for 1 at the end of day three in their 4-day U-19 Cooch Behar Trophy Plate-B match at Nagpur, Monday.
Earlier, Goa, in reply to Vidarbha’s first innings total of 228 all out, managed only 210 in their opening essay. While conceding a slender lead of 18 runs to the hosts, Goa allowed Vidarbha to amass 285 in the second innings – led by first innings hero K P Kakad’s 81 – thus swelling their overall lead to 303.
In pursuit of 304, with Tuesday being the final day, Goa, in their 2nd innings, were 39-1 with Prathamesh Gawas (21) and Kalol Maitra (16) being unbeaten at stumps. Snehal Kauthankar fell for a duck. S S Bingewar (1/14) was the lone wicket-taker for Vidarbha.
Goa manager Chandu Lamani told this paper that his team would be needing a further 265 runs on the final day from a minimum of 90 overs to beat Vidarbha. "Though the chase is going to be tough, we need to string a couple of very good partnerships to stay in contention. May be some one needs to get a hundred and our batsmen have to come good," he added. [NT]
