Goa huffed and puffed their way past Uttar Pradesh to enter the quarter-finals of under-19 boys 58th school tennis ball cricket nationals in Jammu, Wednesday.
Goa won the toss and elected to field first. Utter Pradesh scored 80 runs in the allotted 12 overs. Amit Surlikar took three wickets, Vinod Harijan picked up two while Aniket took one. In reply, Goa scored the required runs in the last ball of the final over. Giridhar 21, Nehal 17, Darpan Borkar 13, Avnish 12.
In the earlier match, Goa piped CBSE. Goa elected to bat first and scored 99 runs in 12 overs for the loss of 6 wickets. Chitra 14, Rahul Naik 20, Aniket 21. In reply, CBSE were bundled out for 56 runs. Aniket Chodankar and Avnish Gaonkar took three wickets each.
The Goan girls will face Madhya Pradesh at 10 a.m. and will play Punjab at 1.30 p.m. at greenfield ground, Jammu in Group C, on Thursday. [H]
