The second edition of Goa Marathon will be held on March 3 from Miramar to Old Goa.
This was disclosed at a press briefing held here on Wednesday by Mr M M Ibrahim, chairman of Goa Marathon and Mr Mathew Kurien of El Shaddai Habitat for Humanity and Bits Pilani-Goa who are also part of this event organization.
The 21km-marathon will cover the most scenic route along the Mandovi river. Around 5000 athletes/ participants, including those from Ethiopia and other African regions are expected to be part of the event. Besides, athletes from Goa and across India will also participate. There will also be 5 km open and charity dream run.
The winner will get a cash prize of Rs 25,000 while the second and third place will bag Rs 15,000 and Rs10,000 respectively.
The organizers informed that Bollywood actor John Abraham has communicated to support this initiative which could help to put a roof over the heads of families in need by participating in the Goa Marathon. Bollywood actress Jaqueline Fernandez is also likely to attend.
It was also announced that Roberto Mendes Silva,a professional football player from Brazil signed up to run for the Goa Marathon because this athlete believes that it is important not only to be involved in sports but also help to those in need. [NT]
