Goa puts up impressive show at London WTM

The Department of Tourism successfully participated in the biggest travel event in the world, The World Travel Mart, London, which was held from November 5 – 8 at Excel Centre, London.

The exhibition saw the participation of almost 5000 exhibitors from around the world. The Goa delegation comprised Mr Dilip Parulekar, Minister for Tourism and Mr Milind Naik, Minister for Power and officials from the Tourism Department.

The Goa stall was decorated with emphasis on heritage and culture. Live musicians, Goan mascots like Ghode Modnni, etc made the stall very attractive. The stall was visited by many members of the world travel and trade fraternity. Goan trade members who participated in WTM appreciated the overall decor and design of the stall. The attractive stall helped in generating many footfalls which in turn provided excellent networking and marketing opportunities for the Goan trade members to conduct business.

The tourism minister, Mr Dilip Parulekar, expressed his satisfaction at the outcome of Goa’s participation and hoped that Goa will succeed in attracting many tourists from the United Kingdom in the coming season. He mentioned that the UK was an important market and tourist arrivals from UK has been witnessing a decline in the recent years due to neglect of proper marketing and promotion. He mentioned that the department will be carrying out a massive promotional strategy in this market in future. The trade members requested the minister to ensure that the standards of the stall are maintained and further improved in view of the state’s future participation in important travel marts around the world so that the tourist arrivals in the state increases to six million tourists as per the target set by the Chief Minister. Mr Parulekar later participated in a Goa Tourism promotional event at Budapest on November 9 which was attended by over 85 members of the Hungarian travel fraternity, media and travel writers. The event also saw active support and participation from the Indian embassy in Budapest. [NT]
