Goa Seamen association appeals to govt against seafarers union
Goa Seamen association of India (GSAI) has said that they have appealed to the state and central government including the directorate general of shipping regarding their grievances against National union of seafarers of India (NUSI).
"Recently, NUSI has offered financial assistance to a broke shipping company in Mumbai but yet despite several appeals from the seafarer community in Goa, NUSI is not interested in giving assistance to retired seafarers in Goa, when in fact, it is their hard-earned right," said Michael Beny da Costa , secretary, GSAI. GSAI president Dixon Vaz stated that they had already made a request to chief minister Manohar Parrikar as well to see that the function of NUSI was streamlined on behalf of the seafarer community.
GSAI had requested the government to contact NUSI general secretary-cum-treasurer as they want a joint meeting with a representative of the state government, NUSI and GSAI on one table. [TOI]
