Goan death toll is 16 as one more identified
Goan death toll in the bus mishap at Khed has gone up to 16 with a dead body on Wednesday identified as that of a woman of Goan origin who had settled in Australia.
In the tragic road mishap that occurred in the wee hours of Tuesday,
37 passengers of a Goa-Mumbai bus were killed and 14 were left critically injured after a Mumbai-bound bus belonging to Mahakali Travels plunged into the Jagbudi river near Khed taluka in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra.
On Tuesday, 15 victims were identified to be from Goa. One more dead body which was not identified on Tuesday was identified on Wednesday as that of Maria Gabat from Saligao.
“Maria had married and settled in Australia,” disclosed the director of Transport, Mr Arun Desai. He also said that the four-member team that was assisting the injured at Khed has also returned back to Goa.
Mr Desai also disclosed that all the three injured people from Goa have returned back to the state. While Ms Antonette Mendes has been admitted in Goa Medical College and Hospital, Mr Shivram Garudi has been admitted into the Vasco MPT hospital, and Mr Gaurish Parsekar is on the way to the state, he added.
