Goan I-League clubs to meet SAG to solve ground unavailability problem
Four I-League clubs of Goa—Dempo SC, Salgaocar FC, Churchill Brothers and Sporting Clube de Goa—will hold a meeting on Monday to decide the future course regarding holding of the remaining I-League matches at the Nehru Stadium, Fatorda.
According to GFA sources and representatives of some of the I-League clubs, the meeting will be held at Dempo House in Panaji, and it will also be attended by SAG Executive Director, Mr Elvis Gomes.
It was informed that Mr Gomes has written to the GFA stating that it would not be possible to hold the remaining I-League matches at Fatorda’s Nehru stadium as it will be undergoing renovation work for the 2013 Lusofonia Games.
In the given circumstances, the remaining matches of the I-League could either be held at Tilak Maidan in Vasco or at Duler stadium in Mapusa. But most of these representatives were not in favour of holding these matches at Tilak Maidan, Vasco nor at Duler stadium.
"Tilak Maidan pitch at Vasco is reported to be ready but other works are still going on there at a snail’s pace," said a representative of one of the clubs.
As for Duler ground, they said the ground there is uneven and not suitable for holding the I-League matches.
Most of these representatives, however, of the view that something should be done to continue the I-League matches at Nehru stadium at least for another 15 to 20 days, till the Tilak Maidan is
fully ready. [NT]
