The team behind the Konkani film, ‘Digant’ is happy and content as their film is part of the Indian Panorama section of 43rd IFFI Goa. It is the lone film from Goa that represents Goa and Goans at the film fest.
Goa is considered as a hub for creativity, where every home sprouts an artist. Does the nomination of just one film in the Indian Panorama section of the 43rd IFFI justify this? Filmmaker of Digant, Dnyanesh Moghe does not agree.
“We have to look at the whole picture. Goa makes just three feature films in a year. If we compare ourselves to other states like Maharashtra, which has two films, West Bengal and the South, which has only eight films in the Indian Panorama section, we are doing better. If we make 10 films in a year then you can expect more films at IFFI,” states Moghe.
Raju Pednekar, the protagonist of Digant adds, “Goa has all the talent be it in the technical department or otherwise. The issue is that we are short of scripts.”
Moghe opines that there should be a balance of visual language and language of the script.
They are now optimistic about the screening of their film at IFFI and hope that more Goans come forward to watch it. For Moghe, more than awards, what counts is the appreciation.
“I just came to know that the Indian Panorama jury chairperson, Buddhadeb Dasgupta made mention about Digant and stated that it is a good film. For me, such appreciation is no less than receiving an Oscar,” says Moghe.
Digant is produced by Sanjay Shetye of Vinsan Production. The cast includes Raju Pednekar, Deepa Moghe, Pranav Bhise, Samiksha Desai and Raju Naik.
(Digant will be screened today on November 23 at Inox II at 8 p.m.) [NT]
