Goan tribes unhappy over fund allocation
The Tribes of Goa (ToG) have expressed serious regret over the non-utilisation of budgetary funds to the tune of Rs 300 crore meant for them under the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP).
Challenging the tribal welfare department to prove that the schemes introduced by him during his tenure is going to bring socio-economic and educational parivartan of STs, Adv Guru Shirodkar, ToG spokesman, claimed that their demands have been simply ignored to the best reasons of the tribal welfare department.
“Let the tribal welfare department tell the ST people that out of Rs 30 crore spent, how much amount was actually spent on socio-economic and educational development of STs,” demanded Shirodkar.
Shirodkar further stated that in June 2012, a delegation led by Trust Chairman Peter Gama called on the department and reminded that from 2004 when Parrikar was the chief minister, the setting up of Tribal Advisory Council was due, which has to plan the TSP Fund.
“The department was also requested to file counter to the petition pending in the Supreme Court for political reservation. However nothing has been done so far,” Shirodkar claimed and added that any government scheme will not reach STs, as the tribal welfare department failed to formulate the guidelines in issuing the ST certificate without the condition of a cut-off date of 1968.
