Catholic across the state united in prayers, sung songs of repentance, observed fasts and abstained from the worldly comforts to observe Good Friday, the day, Jesus Christ was crucified.
The statues of the crucified Jesus were lowered from the huge crosses in many churches recalling the crucifixion of Jesus Christ at the mount Calvary, 2000 years ago.
The prayer services followed by masses were celebrated in Margao churches. The priests narrated the suffering of Jesus on the cross, who died for the sins of mankind and their salvations.
At Raia, the Good Friday was observed from 3.30 p.m. The mass was celebrated by Parish Priest, Fr Leonardo Moares, assistant Parish Priests, Fr Seby Dias, Fr Dylan D Costa and SVD followed by sermon.
The parish priest of Raia, Fr Leonardo Moares in his sermon stressed on the sufferings, pains of Jesus on the cross.
He said Jesus died on the cross to save us. “We therefore have to live an exemplary life maintaining good relation with families and neighbours,’’ he added. [NT]
