Goods worth Rs 50,000 seized by MMC

The market inspector of Margao Municipal  Council (MMC), Mr Anil Shirodkar, on Tuesday, informed that the council in its anti-encroachment drive conducted in the new market seized goods worth nearly Rs 50, 000.

“Goods worth nearly Rs 50,000 were seized on Tuesday in the anti-encroachment drive. Plastic items, including the chairs and tables, utensils, cloth bundles, etc were lifted during the encroachment  drive,’’ said Mr Shirodkar while speaking to ‘The Navhind  Times’.
He added that a  detailed reported on the drive would be submitted to the chief officer, Ms  Sandhya Kamat, to further action.   “All these goods are kept in the MMC,’’ he disclosed.
Asked whether any strict action would be taken against those habitual encroachers of MMC footpaths, Mr Shirodkar answered in positive  and added that  the chief officer is the right authority to act upon.  He, however, added that the drive will continue.
Interestingly, a couple of  shopkeepers in the market  claimed that whenever they demand for the  improvement in the market, the “authorities conduct  anti-encroachment  drive and  that too with partiality.’’ [NT]
