Panaji: Goa governor Mridula Sinha, in her Revolution Day message, urged the people of the state to promote communal harmony, peace and prosperity, even as she paid homage to the martyrs of Goa’s freedom struggle.
“It’s an honour to me to join the people of Goa today in commemorating the great freedom struggle of the Goans. Communal harmony has been sthe faith of Goans. Their spectacular progress since liberation is the outcome of their hard working spirit,” she added.
In his message, chief minister Manohar Parrikar said the martyrs “made it possible for us to live in dignity and be masters of our destiny”.
“June 18 is celebrated as ‘Goa Kranti Din’ to recollect the saga of the struggle of the people of Goa for freedom. The uprising on this day in 1946 not only shook the foundation of the alien rule, but eventually led to the liberation of Goa,” he said. (TOI)
