Govt suspended 75 employees since March ’12
A total of 75 government servants, including two Superintendents of Police and Mines & Geology Director were suspended on various grounds after the BJP-led government took over reins of the State on March 8, 2012.
An extensive chart detailing reasons of suspension and revocation of each government employee was tabled by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar in the Legislative Assembly Session, which concluded Friday. The police department tops the chart, with 37 suspensions, including that of Crime Branch DySPs Shamba Sawant and Chandrakant Salgaoncar on separate counts, and five constables for their alleged involvement in the police-drug nexus case among others.
Sawant was suspended on April 14, 2012 following allegations by a lady constable of sexual harassment while Salgaoncar, suspended on October 15, 2012, was accused of shielding an accused in illegal mining case at Pernem. Several other policemen were suspended for various reasons, including an IRB constable for recording obscene MMS of his girlfriend and circulating amongst the force. [H]
