Govt to sell onions at Rs 90/100 per kg in horticulture outlets

Panjim: In what could come as major relief from skyrocketing prices of onion, the State Horticulture Corporation is set to make onions available at a subsidised rate between Rs 90 and Rs 100 per kg, across all its outlets from Monday.

Horticulture Corporation Chairman Pravin Zantye told Herald that the corporation has ordered 25 tonnes of onions from Nashik, which is expected to be delivered by wee hours of Monday. “Post that stock, we will be in position to sell onions between Rs 90 to Rs 100 per kg from Monday,” he said.

Zantye said that at present the onions are sold at price of Rs 130 in the outlets. The prices of onion in retail market were somewhere between Rs 150 to Rs 170 per kg. [H]
