Govt to verify Shirodkar’s involvement in illegal mining
The state government in its affidavit informed the apex court that it requires to verify whether Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Subhash Shirodkar is involved in illegal mining activities.
The state government also stated that it has been reported that Shirodkar is also operating machinery in some mines in Goa under the name of Vasundhara Minerals. "While the government does recognize the right of every citizen to conduct legal business, it is required to verify, scrutinize and examine whether by using political clout, any illegal, irregular or unauthorized mining had been undertaken and carried out by such persons," the affidavit said.
The state government firmly believes that illegal mining which had been undertaken would not have been possible without the blessings and connivance of the persons in power from the year 2007 to 2012, the affidavit said. [TOI]
