GPCC objects to CM’s act of ‘sidelining’ NGT order

The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) has taken a strong objection to the act of the Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Parrikar of ‘sidelining’ the order of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) as regards appointing a full-time officer on the Goa Coastal Regulatory Zone Management Authority (GCRZMA). The Congress legislator, Mr Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, addressing a press conference at the Congress House, on Friday, said that the order of the National Green Tribunal dated December 18, 2012, as regards a case not attended by the state Advocate General stated, "That apart, according to law the member secretary (of the Goa Coastal Regulatory Zone Management Authority) is a full time officer and cannot be assigned with any other supplementary duty. Thus there was no reason as to why the member secretary did not comply with the orders passed by the Tribunal."

Speaking further, Mr Lourenco said that the Chief Minister, sidelining this order, appointed Mr Levinson Martins as the member secretary of the Goa Coastal Regulatory Zone Management Authority on January 8, 2012. "The order has been sidelined as Mr Martins is the director of science, technology and environment, has additional charge of the Goa Handicrafts Rural and Small Scale Industries Development, and is the member secretary of the Goa State Pollution Control Board," he added.[NT]
