Grants to primary schools soon for ensuring students’ safety

Stating that school managements should display alertness as well as sensitivity towards the students, the Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Parrikar on Thursday said that the government will soon provide grants to the primary level schools in Goa for employing non-teaching staff to take proper care of the students.

Replying to a Calling Attention Motion tabled by the Fatorda MLA, Mr Vijai Sardesai as regards the recent incident in a Vasco school wherein a seven-year-old school girl was raped by an unknown person, the Chief Minister said that the particular school has eight ayahs in its service, but all of them were busy attending private works of the school teachers, such as bank transactions of the teachers and so on at the time of the crime. “If staff recruited for taking care of the students is engaged in some other works, then how would the students receive care and protection, even if government makes provision for related grants,” [NT]
