GSCW: Crime against women has increased


Goa is a safe place, but crime against women has increased of late, with several cases of domestic violence coming to the fore,” Chairperson of Goa State Commission for Women Ezilda Sapeco said Friday. 
Sapeco was speaking at a press conference to announce a day long workshop on crimes against women scheduled for Sunday. She said the workshop, which will have participation from police, judiciary and other related agencies is aimed at creating sensitization to check crime against women. 
The commission has also expressed concern on the series of jewellry thefts and cash occurring by conning women. 
Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza and Women & Child Welfare Minister Dilip Parulekar have been invited to the workshop.  Judge Anuja Prabhudesai, Director General of Police Kishan Kumar and others from various fields will be speaking on the subject. 
The commission, meanwhile, has started free marriage counseling in its office. Sapeco said the counseling is held every Tuesday and Friday for person needing immediate attention.  [H]
