GSPCB issues show cause notices to 34 probationary employees

The Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has issued show cause notices to 34 probationary employees for alleged irregularity in their recruitment during the erstwhile government, asking them why their appointments should not be terminated.

The 34 probationary employees including scientific assistants, junior lab assistants and senior lab assistants were recruited in the month of December 2011 by the erstwhile government.
However, an applicant, Ms Sayadhari Sinari, who had applied for all three posts and had not got selected for a single post, suspecting a foul play in the entire recruitment process, had filed a writ petition against the entire recruitment process before the High Court.
When the matter came up for hearing, the GSPCB council had assured the court that it would initiate a detailed enquiry into the recruitment process and accordingly initiate action.
The GSPCB had appointed retired Joint Secretary, Personnel, Mr Borkar to investigate into the entire recruitment process and asked him to submit a report before the Board on November 2012. The GSPCB chairman, Mr Jose Manual Noronha informed that the findings of Borkar Committee had raised serious question mark over the entire recruitment
process.
“On February 15, at the board’s special meeting, the Borkar Committee report was tabled before the Board members and it decided to initiate further course of action and accordingly the show cause notices were issued to all 34 probationary employees who were recruited in the year 2011,” said Mr Noronha. He disclosed that all 34 employees have been asked to appear before the Board on March 9. [NT]
