HC asks govt to respond to plea on MLAs holding dual nationality

The high court of Bombay at Goa has directed the central and the state governments to reply within three weeks to a petition filed by social activist Kashinath Shetye and another seeking investigation by CBI, NIA and CID, Goa, into the alleged dual citizenship of politicians and a police officer in the state.

Fearing that those holding dual citizenship are a threat to national security, Shetye had filed a complaint with the investigating agencies last year and pointed out the acts of breach of national security, forgery.

As they failed to register an FIR, Shetye approached the high court and brought to its notice the allegations that MLAs Glenn Ticlo, Caetano Silva, SP Allen D'Sa are Portuguese citizens. The plea also mentions a social activist as holding dual citizenship but does not reveal the identity.

The petitioners also stated that people staying illegally without valid visa or permission after attaining foreign nationality is shocking. Seeking urgent intervention of the court, Shetye has sought a direction to the respondents to probe the case by registering an FIR. [TOI]
