Hike in excise duties: Cong questions timing
Congress spokesman Reginaldo Lourenco has demanded to know why Manohar Parrikar government effected a hike in excise duties on ticketed parties and events post-Diwali and at a time when the Christian community moves into a festive season of Christmas.
He said it is a known fact that Christmas events and dances during the Christmas week is celebrated across the state, adding that the move is certainly bad for tourism. “The move has been trashed by the tourism industry that feels the goose that lays the golden eggs for Goa will be killed”, he added.
On the Dabolim airport episode, the Congress spokesman recalled the statement made by Chief Minister during his tenure as Leader of the Opposition that the decision to drop the proceedings to acquire the land for parking at the last minute smacks of corruption.
“The incumbent deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza and Health Minister Laxmikant Parsekar had also voiced their reservations of what was termed by the BJP then as a scam and smacks of corruption”, he said.
Reginaldo further said “when Parrikar asked me to accept that the Congress Ministers were responsible for the scam; I have openly admitted it. So, now what’s stopping the Chief Minister from doing what is good for the people of Goa; unless, of course, he too is a part of the Dabolim airport land scam and is working in the interest of the builder”.
