Hubli native stabs minor girl, is thrashed by locals
A 15-year-old girl from Betalbatim was stabbed by 30-year-old Hubli native and construction labourer Hassan Nagdekar, while she was on her way to tuition classes at Betalbatim on Friday afternoon. Nagdekar was later thrashed by locals.
The girl sustained injuries on her chin and hands and also fractured her thumb. The girl and Nagdekar have been admitted to GMC, Bambolim, for treatment. Police sources said the incident occurred at around 3pm. The girl and Nagdekar seemed to know each other as both were living in the same locality, but police are baffled over the motive for the assault. Nagdekar was working on a nearby construction site for the last two years, sources said.
"The girl was walking along the road and was on her way to tuition classes. The accused who was walking in the opposite direction accosted the girl, and before she knew what was happening, he stabbed her with a knife," Colva PI Nilesh Rane said.
When the girl cried for help, locals numbering around 100 gathered at the spot, and thrashed Nagdekar before police could arrive, sources said. The mob even attempted to prevent police from taking the accused into custody. The police team led by Rane rushed both to Hospicio hospital, Margao, from where they were shifted to GMC.
While the girl is believed to be out of danger, Nagdekar's condition is serious, sources said.
Colva police have booked an offence against Nagdekar under Section 307 of the IPC ( attempt to murder) and relevant sections under the Goa Children's Act 2003 and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. [TOI]
