Notwithstanding the opposition and trepidation in sections of the state, the government’s seriousness about the Mopa green field airport is now abundantly clear; with the government notifying section 6 of the Land Acquisition Act stating its intention to acquire land at Pernem’s Chandel village. In the notification issued here, the government has also appointed a special land acquisition officer, Mopa airport cell, at Panjim, to perform the function of a Collector, North Goa District, Panjim, for all proceedings “in respect of the said land” and directed him “under section 7 of the said Act to take order for the acquisition of the said land.”
A plan of the land has been put up and can be inspected at the office of the Special Land Acquisition Officer, Mopa Airport Cell, Panaji-Goa, untill the award is made under section 11, the notification claims.
It maybe recalled that the government notification dated July 17, 2012 was published in the Official Gazette, dated 02-08-2012 and in two newspapers (one English and the other vernacular) and it was notified under section 4 of the Land Acquisition Act, 1894 (Central Act 1 of 1894) stating that that the land specified “was likely to be needed for public purpose viz. land Acquisition for construction of new international airport at Mopa in Pernem taluka.” [H]
