Iqbal XI beat La Paz, storm into final
Iqbal XI entered the finals of 31st Nanda Lolayekar Trophy cricket tournament beating La Paz XI by 50 runs at Nirakar Maidan Dapot Mashem.
Iqbal XI, electing to bat, tallied 291/8 in 35 overs. Opener Amey Dhamsekar made 35 off 13 balls. After his departure, Alok Deshpande took control and went on making a brilliant 123 off 89 balls (9×4, 5×6). He proved that the Mashem ground is lucky for him as he had also scored a century in the finals last year which had enabled Iqbal XI to lift the trophy. He was well supported by Shashank S (35) and Harish Naik 35 (5×6) who took 25 runs off the last over. For La Paz, Rohit Asnodkar was the pick of the bowlers with 3/48. Atith Naik 2/59, Amulya Pandhrekar 1/40.
In reply, La Paz lost Rahul Keni very early in the innings. Sagar Gosavi bowled a superb spell in the begining with 3/48. Rohit Asnodkar played a sensible innings of 95 off 70 balls (11×4) and Kallol Maitra scored 58. La Paz were all out for 241. Ganesh D took 4/49 whereas Sagar Gosavi took 3/48.
Iqbal will meet Margao Cricket Club on March 31.
