Jail guard held for molesting policewoman at Calangute

Just when the State has been shamed by crimes against women and children, a jail guard allegedly molested a policewoman on duty at Calangute beach, while a Kashmiri minor boy allegedly tried to rape a Delhi tourist at Sinquerim. Both have been arrested by police.

According to Calangute police, jail guard Suresh Gaonkar (30) of Shiroda-Ponda, attached to Central Jail Aguada, Sinquerim, allegedly tried to outrage the modesty of the lady police, attached to Goa Armed Police. The policewoman was on duty near the lifeguard tower at Calangute beach with the Tourist Security Force of Goa Tourism.

Police further informed that as the policewoman refused to oblige him, the jail guard slapped her. She later filed a complaint with Calangute Police, who later arrested the jail guard.

“We are writing to the Superintendent of Jail authorities to initiate action against the erring staff,” said Police Inspector Nolasco Raposo.

In the second incident, a Kashmiri minor boy was arrested for allegedly trying to rape a girl from Delhi at Sinquerim. According to Calangute Police, the 17-year-old boy on seeing the lonely girl walking along the road rushed to her and pulled her in his shop.

Police further informed that the boy forced her down and allegedly tried to have forcible sex, which she resisted. The panicked girl shouted for help and the locals rushed to her rescue and called the police.

Calangute Police took the minor boy in their custody and later sent him to Apna Ghar at Merces. Calangute Police is investigating the case. [H]
