Jerose shines for Wilred Leisure

Jerose Oliveira netted a brace to enable Wilred Leisure Sports Club register a 2-0 win over Goa Velha Sports Club in the Kingfisher Goa Professional League match played at Poriat grounds, Calangute, on Tuesday.

With today’s win Wilred Leisure moved their tally to eight points while Goa Velha remain blank at the end of the fifth round.

Wilred started brightly and should have taken the lead in the 10th minute of play, as former Dempo medio Johnny D’Cruz set up Slegan Gracias whose placement hit the post.

Another former Dempo defender Dominic Noronha saw his header being saved by Goa Velha keeper Siddhesh Morje.

However in the 19th minute D’Cruz crossed the ball to Slegan who headed the ball to Jerose Oliveira and the last named struck a bicycle kick to make
it 1-0.

Wilred Leisure carried on their onslaught as D’Cruz after getting hold of a loose ball sent a pass to Slegan, which was blocked by Goa Velha defender Jolan Lourenco, to find the ball travelling to Jerose Oliveira, who darted inside the penalty box and beat the advancing keeper Siddesh with a neat placement.

Goa Velha who did shine in patches in the first session, had two good attempts at the rival goal.

Adolf Caido attempted a stinging shot from the top of the penalty box, which was blocked by Wilred keeper Macklas Moraes with a diving save, but before Royden Camelo could get his feet to the ball, stopper back Dominic Noronha cleared the ball for a corner. Goa Velha should have pulled one back in the 75th minute but Royden Camelo’s free-kick was parried over the post by Wilred keeper. [NT]
