Kannur admits knowing Pune girl stayed at Ponda flat

Veren Kannur alias Raju, 35, a native of Karnataka, who was arrested by the Ponda police on Tuesday for his alleged role in a prostitution racket, admitted that the rescued Pune girl was staying at his rented flat in Ponda.
The police had arrested Kannur after a 19-year-old Pune girl had informed them that she was confined to his Ponda flat for 10 days and sexually assaulted by several men.
Kannur denied his role in the racket but revealed to the police that a person called Babu approached him with two girls, who he said were his cousins, asking if they could stay at his Ponda flat while Kannur was away. "Although I knew that the two girls, including the rescued Pune girl, were staying at the flat with Babu, I was not aware of what they were doing at the flat," Kannur told the police.
Ponda PI CL Patil added that they were verifying the statements and were on the lookout for Babu and the other girl. Kannur was produced before the Ponda judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) on Wednesday and remanded to five days of police custody. [TOI]
