Khan lashes out at BJP minority cell president
The all Goa Congress committee minority department chairman, Mr Saifullah Khan, on Wednesday, strongly criticised the BJP minority cell president, Mr Shaikh Jina for allegedly blaming the Congress for giving a free hand to the migrants.
In a press statement issued here, Mr Khan said the Congress party has always stood behind the common man and provided shelter to the poor, needy including migrants who have played a vital role in Goa’s overall development.
He alleged that the BJP in the state was trying to play a “communal role” by initiating action against the structures atop Moti Dongor, existing for over 30 years. He said the BJP government has already failed to provide proper rehabilitation to those affected in a demolition drive carried out at Baina in 2004 and now attempts are being made to clear structures of 372 people at Moti Dongor.
“BJP should not try to play dirty politics,” stated Mr Khan, maintaining that the people residing at Moti Dongor have made a valuable contribution to the growth of Margao and even to the state and that they should not be considered as illegal occupants.
He urged Mr Jina and senior BJP leaders including the Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Parrikar to come up with a housing package or rehabilitation package for the families residing at Moti Dongor on humanitarian grounds and then only take necessary steps for demolishing the structures. [NT]
