Khandola, St Xavier’s emerge champs

 

 Government College, Khandola and St Xavier’s, Mapusa bagged the men’s and women’s titles respectively in the 1st inter-college baseball championships organized by Goa University.In men’s final, Government College, Khandola trounced Caculo, Mapusa 8-2.  Sunny Gaude of Khandola was adjudged best all-rounder of the tournament.
The Government College, Khandola team: Sunny Gaude, Shubham Naik, Hanuraj Gaude, Sushant Vaigankar, Gautam Gaude, Kunal Kawlekar, Gauresh Gaude, Tushant Gaude, Manjunath Gaonkar, Sanket Shetkar, Pushpajit Gaude, Gauresh Gaude, Kapil Gaude, Akash Gaude, Vishant Khedekar, Shashant Gaude.
The Caculo team: Deepesh Pednekar, Prajyot Parsekar, Aniket Shanai, Naik Naguesh, Milton D’Souza, Rohan Naik, Abhishek Dempe, Nayak Ramakant, Sandeep Ghadi, Akshay Naik, Kishor Naik, Aniket Mandrekar, Rohan Kolwalkar, Omkar Naik, Parshuram Pilarnkar,  Kaushalya Rajratna.In the semi-finals, Caculo were lucky to overcome GVM via the toss after the match ended in a 3-3 tie even after extra innings. Menawhile, Government College Khandola beat Dempo 4-1.
In the women’s section, St Xavier’s, Mapusa got the better of Shree Mallikarjun, Canacona 9-3.
Sheral D’Mello of St Xavier’s was declared best all-rounder of tournament.The St Xavier’s team: Tereza Martin, Leoni Martin, Preeti Shinde, Rekha Bhale, Fatima Carvalho, Ashwani Chowgule, Marietta Sequeira, Malvita Mascernhas, Elsi Fernandes, Steffi Mendes, Krisha Halankar, Deseiree Pereira, Savia D’Souza, Sheral D’Mello, Kitki Naik, Sonali Gaunder.
The Mallikarjun team: Gaonkar Chandrabhaga, Gosavi Ranjita, Naik Tanvi, Tengse Diksha, Padkar Gauri, Velip Kavita, Fernandes Alisha, Warik Arpan, Pagi Sneha, Zaraunakr Reshma, Phal Sneha, Gaonkar Bharti, Naik Shubhada, Zoro Pratibha, Powar Bindiya,  Desai Shubhada.
In the semi-finals, Mallikarjun crushed GVM’s 11-1 while St Xavier’s drubbed Government College, Khandola 10-0.
Nine teams participated in the men’s section while Five teams competed in the women’s category. Prof. JAE Desa, Dean of Natural Sciences was the chief guest and gave away the prizes.
Meanwhile, the Goa University inter-college taekwondo championship for men and women will be held on March 8 at Indoor Hall, Fatorda. [H]
