Kin booked for harassing woman

Ponda police have booked three in-laws of a newly married woman for allegedly harassing and torturing her in the past 14 months.

The complainant, a woman from Marcaim, had married 20 months ago and is now staying at her maiden home. No complaint was lodged against her husband.

Ponda police said Sanvi Naik, 29, a resident of Mahalwada-Marcaim in Ponda has lodged a complaint stating that her brother-in-law Sameer, mother-in-law Surangi and her husband's uncle Govind have been harassing her since December 2011.

She filed a complaint against them as they denied her entry in to her husband's house at Mahalwada-Marcaim when she returned from her parent's house on Tuesday, police said quoting her complaint.

Based on her complaint, police said, they have registered a case against the in-laws under section 498-A (Harassment) of Indian Penal Code (IPC). [TOI]
