Kotwale’s exit grounds MMC as new CO yet to take charge

Margao Municipal Council had no chief officer on Monday, with transferred Chief Officer Srinet Kotwale taking charge of his new posting in  the Industries department, while newly-appointed Chief Officer Sandhya Kamat failing to assume charge today.
Kotwale has been moved out of the civic body after Ms Kamat submitted her joining report on Friday, but she was conspicuous by her absence on Monday. The City Fathers and officials are keeping their fingers crossed and hope that the new chief officer assumes duty on Tuesday since the administration has come to a total halt.
When contacted, Kotwale said he decided to take up his new posting after Sandhya Kamat gave her joining report. “I felt it was not proper on my part to hang on in Margao when the new officer has submitted her joining report.”
When contacted, Ms Kamat said she would take charge of office in a day or two, even as the Margao Municipal Chairperson Arthur D’Sillva took up the issue of chief officer with Urban Development Minister Francis D’Souza.
Arthur called up the Urban Development Minister to draw his attention to the problems faced by the civic body in the absence of a chief officer. The chairperson is also believed to have called up Kotwale to find out why he assumed charge in the Industries Department before Ms Kamat officially took the reigns from him.
“The sudden transfer of Kotwale will cause problems for the civic body. Many things planned during the last five months have been left midway. There’s no stability in the civic administration,” he said. [H]
