KPMG to be watchdog of all IPB projects

Panjim: Following controversies and allegations, the State government has appointed KPMG as satellite consultants to analyse all Investment Promotion Board projects.Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said that henceforth KPMG will analyse the projects and prepare data upon which IPB approval will be granted. Parrikar also said that many past controversial cases will also be sent to KPMG for review. “Review does not mean the projects are rejected but proper analysis will be done on the project,” he clarified.Explaining further he said, “Whether the projects fit in the IPB Act or not has to be studied and whether the project is in order or the promoter is just faking it will be studied by the consultants, as for example we promote non-polluting, employment generating projects etc.”
Questioned as to why and how KPMG was appointed as they are also consultants to draw up the tourism master plan for Goa, he said, “We have selected KPMG after competition and we found them to be the best in this business. KPMG is an internationally reputed organisation. Moreover their job is consultancy and they have fulfilled our technical requirement.” [H]
