KRUCC proposes to develop Madgaon railway station
The 10th meeting of Konkan Railway Users Consultative Committee (KRUCC) was held at the Konkan Railway corporate office in Belapur, Navi Mumbai, recently.
The highlight of the meeting was a proposal to develop Madgaon railway station as the model station of Goa on the lines of Hubli, which has recently been renovated to become one of the most up-to-date rail terminuses.
Development of the station will mean additional area to make it more spacious, and the construction of a multi-functional complex to include more amenities for convenience of passengers like cyber café, hotel, shopping, etc.
For this, the plan is to acquire land in adjacent areas of the station, for which Goa government it is learnt has already given approval. Other proposals taken up at KRUCC meeting were additional ticket booking counter at Canacona, Madgaon, Karmali, Tivim and Pednem, drinking water and attachment of extra sleeper and AC coaches to Konkan Kanya Express, cleanliness of all stations, only healthy eatables served and full shelter at Karmali station.
The KRUCC meeting also witnessed its oldest member Mr Gangaram Morajkar, co-chairman of GCCI retail committee, being honoured by Mr Bhanu Prakash, managing director and chairman KRUCC for his valuable contribution.
Speaking on the honour, Mr Morajkar said that members of KRUCC are extremely amenable to suggestions coming in from Goa and are also keen in implementing them. [NT]
