Krystal shines bright, wins silver

Goa’s emerging chess talent, Krystal Fernandes (1416) defeated Kruthika KR(1241) of Tamil Nadu in the final round to win a silver medal at the National U-9 girls chess championships at Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Krystal scored 10 points from 11 rounds with 9 wins and 2 draws without losing a single game. She missed the gold medal by half a point. WFM Lakshmi of Tamil Nadu won the gold.

Krystal is a student of Rosary High School, Miramar and is coached by Siva Swamy and Prasanna Swamy from Bambolim.

Swera Braganza (1377) drew her last round with WCM Salonika Saina (1479) of Orissa in the final round to finish 5th with the score of 7.5 points.

Goan girls have always tasted success at national and international level event and now Krystal has emerged as a new star. [NT]
