Landfilling on at Candolim despite dy collector’s order

Panaji: The reclamation of a low lying paddy field in a vast area in Orda, Candolim, continues despite a ‘stop work’ order issued by the deputy collector (flying squad) more than a fortnight ago. Some villagers alleged that the work in the property, bearing survey no. 59/3, had stopped only briefly after the deputy collector’s issued the order on December 21, 2017. “There is no respect for the deputy collector’s notice, and now there is even some construction going on,” the complainant, Damiao Telles, said. The order can be seen pasted on the metal barricade at the site, but work on the project continues in full public gaze, not far from the Nerul river. The flying squad had inspected the property and stated in a report that landfilling was being carried out in an area of about 12,000 sqm. A revenue department source said they were not aware about the resumption of work and would “look into the matter”.[TOI]
