Landslide at Verna paralyses Panaji-Margao traffic

The national highway connecting Panaji and Vasco from Margao was completely blocked for nearly 12 hours due to the landslide on the Verna-Santrant slope at Santrant. The landslide occurred in the wee hours of Saturday. The south district administration took immediate action in clearing the mud and stones which had come down from the hillock at around 4 a.m. and normal traffic resumed at around 4 p.m. on Saturday. The South Goa Collector, Mr N D Agrawal, Deputy Collector and Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Margao, Mr Dasharath Redkar, Deputy Collector and Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Mormugao, Mr Gaurish Shankhwalkar, mamlatdar, disaster management and e-governance, Mr Rajesh Sakhalkar, mamlatdar, South, Mr Jitendra Bugde, Inspector General of Police, Mr Sanjay Singh, Superintendent of Police, traffic, Mr Vishram Borkar, Superintendent of Police, South, Mr Allan D’Sa, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Vasco, Mr Lawrence D’Souza, chief engineer, PWD, Mr D J S Borkar, executive engineer, PWD (NH) Division-XIV, Mr Umesh Kulkarni and other PWD officials, along with Goa State Fire and Emergency Services personnel visited the site from time to time.
