Laxmi Prasad continued with their unbeaten run, as they registered a solitary goal win over Corps of Signals in the GFA’s First Division League match played, at Duler grounds, here on Monday.
Both the teams had played a goalless draw in the first leg outing at Navelim.
After their 9th round league match, Laxmi Prasad stayed on top of the league table with 21 points, while Signals remained on 16 points.
Though Signals had the better of ball possession in the first session, they had only one good attempt at the rival goal, where LH Sanga’s power-packed grounder missed the target by a whisker.
Laxmi Prasad started with almost the same line-up, which they played against Taleigao, with Lavino Fernandes and Alvito Miranda in the attack, while for Signals Shaji JP and Nim Tshering controlled the attack, but both were given very little space to have a clear look at the goal, by stopper back Stanley D’Silva and Marcos D’Costa.
In the very 4th minute, Sangam Pednekar set up Milton Gomes on the right flank, whose cross hit the crossbar, but before Alvito Miranda could aim at the ball, Signals defender Kunal Sarkar cleared the ball for a corner.
Signals keeper Niyas Mon produced two brilliant saves from Alvito Miranda to first block his left footer and then a couple of minutes later tipped the ball over the post.
Five minutes into the second half and Sangam Pednekar sent an intelligent through pass to Alvito Miranda who sneaked past the Signals defence and cut past the advancing keeper Niyas, to place the ball into the empty goal, 1-0.
As the match progressed Signals went all out in search of the equaliser, a long ranger by TC Lachamagzanva was pushed for a corner by keeper Shilton.
In the injury time, Signals gave Laxmi supporters a fright of their life, as a blistering 40-yard free kick by Sangh, was not cleanly collected by Laxmi keeper, but to everyone’s surprise Nim Tshering ballooned the ball over the cross piece, off the rebound. [NT]
